Observation before interpretation

Capture what happened without diagnosing an emotion or forcing an interaction.

Record what you see, including context. Keep possible explanations separate. If unsure about contact, pause and give space.
Describe the event before offering an explanation. A cat’s stillness alone does not establish comfort.
Pause and recall

What did you actually observe, and what remains uncertain?

  1. Use a quiet ordinary moment or the lesson’s fictional example.
  2. Keep factual observations separate from explanations. Leave unknowns unknown.
  3. Complete the plan even if the cat opts out; that is useful evidence.
